JOB OVERVIEW

• Job Title: Nurse Anesthetist
• Job Type: Locum Tenens
• Location: Multiple Locations in South Carolina (Orangeburg, Columbia, Camden, Florence, Marion, Chester, Lancaster, Lake City)
• Service Setting: Hospital Operating Room
• Coverage Type: Clinical + Call
• Coverage Period: Sept 1, 2025 – Ongoing (6–9 months)
• Clinical Shift Schedule : 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts (varies by location)
• On-Call Shift Schedule:
  • Orangeburg & Midlands: Home call, 30-minute response
  • Orangeburg: 1 weekday + 1:7 weekend call
  • Midlands: 1 weekday call/week, no weekend call
• Call Type: Beeper (Home call)
• Call Ratio: 1:7 weekend (Orangeburg); 1 weekday per week (all sites)
• Call Response Time: 30 minutes
• Callback Rate: Low – most call involves finishing the schedule in the evening.

COVERAGE DATES:

• September 1, 2025 – Ongoing
• 6–9 month assignment

PATIENT INFORMATION:

• Patient Demographics: Adults, Healthy Pediatrics, OB
• Patient Volume/Census : OR case volumes vary by site (typically high-acuity)
• Admissions: Yes (for surgical/anesthesia cases)
• Rounding: Included (Pre-op/Post-op management as needed)
• Phone Consults: Yes

Case Mix:

• Orangeburg: OB, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Level III Trauma, Vascular, Urology, Dialysis Access, Endoscopy
• Midlands (Columbia/Camden): General Surgery, ENT, Healthy Peds, Cardioversions, Endoscopy
• Florence (Pee Dee): Cardiothoracic, EP, Ortho, General Surgery, Healthy Peds
• Marion/Lake City: General Surgery, Endo, Ortho – no after-hours surgery
• Chester: General Surgery, Ortho, Endo
• Lancaster/Chester: OB, Urology, Ortho, General Surgery, Kidney Transplant (Lancaster)

FACILITY INFORMATION:

• No. of ORs: 9–11 (Orangeburg); varies by location.
• Trauma Level: Level III (Orangeburg).
• EMR System: TBD (Varies by MUSC site).
• Office Equipment Available: Full anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
• Specialty Backup Available: Yes (Cardiology, General Surgery, OB, etc.)
• Support Staff Available: RNs, CRNAs, SRNAs (on rotation), No AAs.
• Reason for Coverage: Supplemental coverage & ongoing clinical need.

PRIVILEGES & COMPLIANCE:

• Hospital Privileges Required: Yes
• Temporary Privileges Available: Yes
• Credentialing Timeline: 30–90 days

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

• Rate: Competitive; Based on experience and shift structure
• Overtime:
  • Daily OT after 8 hours (fixed)
  • Weekly OT after 168 hours (fixed)
• Travel, Lodging, and Malpractice Insurance: Covered

REQUIRED PROCEDURES:

• USGRA (Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia)
• SAB (Spinal Anesthesia Block)
• LE Blocks
• Central Line Placement
• OB Anesthesia (mandatory for Orangeburg)
• Vascular Anesthesia (mandatory for Orangeburg)

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Licenses: Active South Carolina medical license (or eligibility)
• Board Certification: NBCRNA Certified
• DEA: Active DEA Certification
• Certifications : BLS, ACLS required
• Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred; OB/Vascular experience mandatory for some locations.
• Must be proficient in USGRA, SAB, LE blocks.
• No AAs in the program.
• Must be comfortable supervision and collaborating with other CRNAs and SRNAs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide anesthesia care across a wide range of surgical specialties.
• Perform regional and neuraxial blocks as required.
• Manage pre-op, intra-op, and post-op anesthesia care.
• Participate in home call as scheduled.
• Collaborate with CRNAs, SRNAs, and surgical teams.
• Be prepared to independently manage OB and trauma cases in Orangeburg.
• Be the last provider out when on call (Orangeburg).
